In our first year of public opening we are excited to welcome you to Delapré Abbey dressed for Christmas from the 2nd of December, taking inspiration from Christmas past and celebrating 900 years of festive history.
The medieval zone will play host to the simple beginnings of seasonal celebrations with a warming rustic atmosphere, the roaring fire lit and the smell of spices throughout the air.
Moving through the building it will begin to look a lot like Christmas… as we know it today. You will experience a proper Victorian celebration across our Bouverie suite, with Christmas trees adorned with decorations and twinkling lights and traditional surprises around every corner.
You can experience this winter wonderland at the Abbey, Friday – Monday from 11am – 4pm and best of all kids can enjoy it all for free. There is also an opportunity to find out more about festive traditions with a special tour of the Abbey by candlelight with one of our experienced guides.
Alongside the beautifully dressed Abbey we also have a packed events schedule.
We welcome our good friend Mr Claus to the Abbey to find out if all the little girls and boys of Northamptonshire and beyond have been good this year. With help from his little elves, Santa will be welcoming our visitors into his grotto to work out who’s been naughty or nice from the 1st-9th of December.
We will also be helping you get your Christmas gifts in order with our Christmas Market (1st December) and our popular Christmas Fair (15th and 16th December). Tis the season to be prepared after all… Unique suppliers will be offering gifts for all tastes so there is bound to be something you can tick off your list. And if that isn’t enough we will also be opening our gift shop for late night shopping every Thursday in December.
In the spirit of the season we will be bringing together the community with a carol concert (21st December) for all the family. Come along to enjoy cheerful tunes the whole family will know and sing along to.
A representative from Delapré Abbey says, “It’s going to be absolutely wonderful to see the Abbey alive for Christmas again, celebrating the festive season of years gone by for all to explore. Our event programme is similarly diverse with shopping events, children’s theatre, carol singing and floral workshops. We’re so looking forward to celebrating Christmas with all our visitors.”
Don’t miss December at the Abbey, you will leave with a smile on your face and festive excitement in your heart.
