A month on…

A great first month for Delapré Abbey after its official opening, we have seen a variety of events take place and welcomed over 3000 people to the site.

We hosted crafty Easter bonnet makers, creative colourers and chocolate connoisseurs. The Easter trail was alive with lots of little problem solvers all striving to work out the secret password in order to win their prize. Whilst the children were uncovering the clues, a cheeky rabbit was roaming around being closely followed by his arch nemesis Mr M. The duo roamed around the walled garden, helping with clues and posing for pictures.

Amongst all the family focused Easter fun, we also held a performance of Rachmaninoff’s famous works. The piano recital attracted fans of the talented pianist and also fans of classical music in general. The tone of the evening was very sophisticated as the show was held in the grand dining room, this type of evening sets the stage for future events of this nature as many of the visitors were very thankful Delapré had offered a platform for classical music.

We look forward to our Shakespeare weekend this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday, in which we will be paying homage to the great playwright in the lead up to his birthday. Beyond this we have a calendar full of events all year which we expect to see many more visitors from the local community and beyond.

With a new chapter in the Abbey’s history, Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust now looks to the future with great optimism and will work to establish the site as a widely known Northamptonshire heritage tourist attraction.
