I went with a group around the newly restored building and what a fantastic place. The tour came to life by our guide David, who was so knowledgeable, not only about those who had lived there, but about the history of the nation at the different periods of the development of the house. You walk around the old cloisters used by the nuns and also see how the Victorians added their own stamp along with other people in their own period of history. A fantastic tour of an hour or more.
A superb guide took us through 900 years of history in 9 rooms of the restored Abbey. The Orangery Restaurant serves hot lunches, sandwiches and cakes, as a group we were seated in the Billiard Room with wonderful views across the parkland towards the site of the 1460 Battle of Northampton.
